On Saturday morning, Kemsley were crowned the Primary School Football Champions for Sittingbourne!
We were drawn in a group with Minterne B, Bobbing, Regis Manor and Holywell.
Our first game didn’t start too well and after dominating most of the play, we found ourselves 0-1 down. Deep, deep into the second half, Adam E bundled the ball home from close range to salvage a 1-1 draw. Against Bobbing, Riley C scored a hat trick in a superb 3-0 victory against the strongest team in the group. Credit to Tyler S, Charlie V and Max H for keeping the defence tight and Patriks S for a superb save when the score was 2-0. In our third game, against Holywell, Ronnie H scored very early on and the team left us waiting until the final minute when Adam E deflected Riley C’s shot in at the back post to secure victory. It came down to the final game of the group against Regis Manor. Win and we were through to the semi-finals. Anything else, we could be going home. The team secured a comfortable 2-0 win and we were in the semi-finals!
In the semi-finals, we were drawn against Bobbing. With Iwade playing Minterne A in the other. Bobbing were out for revenge and scored early on to take a 1-0 lead. This was just the wake up call Kemsley needed and we then dominated the game and Riley C’s long range effort flew in to make it 1-1 in the second half. Kemsley then laid siege to the Bobbing goal but couldn’t find a break through. Ronnie H had an effort blocked at the last minute and Teddy F somehow missed from a yard at the back post. Extra time it was. The pattern didn’t change. It was one way traffic. Deep deep into extra time, Teddy F tackled their defender, cut inside and unleashed the winner into the bottom hand corner! Cue jubilant celebrations both on the pitch and the touch Line! Kemsley had won 2-1 and were in the final!
Iwade awaited us in the final. After a cagey first couple of minutes, Kemsley settled and started passing the ball and getting themselves into good positions on the pitch. The pitch wasn’t helping both teams with their final ball but midway through the first half, Adam E slid the ball through to Ronnie H and he made no mistake from just inside the box. In the second half, Kemsley gained a free kick just inside the Iwade half. Riley C took it, shot, and it flew past the keeper. Kemsley had a 2-0 lead. From then on, it was backs against the wall. Kemsley defended bravely, throwing bodies in front of the ball as we held on to their lead.
The referee blew the final whistle and we had done it! Kemsley were crowned the Sittingbourne Primary School Football Champions! Regionals here we come!
A huge thank you to all the parents/friends that came to support the team, I’m sure you are as proud of them as we are at school!
Stay tuned for some photos (once I have uploaded them all! There’s a lot of them to get through!)
