Year 2 have been learning all about The Great Fire of London. We researched what caused it, how it spread & the consequences of the fire. We then wrote a non chronological report all about it.
Year 2 had great fun learning the Haka dance in P.E. Yesterday!
Year 2 used the iPads to take a virtual tour of London Zoo.
The children in Maple Class had great fun building the London Eye out of KNEX yesterday afternoon. Some of the children even managed to create moving parts!
Year 2 have been learning about sliding mechanisms. All the children drew the London landmarks using charcoal crayons. They then printed and stuck pictures of London transport on strips of card to make sliding mechanisms. Mrs Bond & Mrs Woolley are extremely proud of the amazing drawings of all the children.
Maple Class spent some time this afternoon learning how to use google maps. They used the programe on iPads to find the way from one London landmark to another. Some of us also worked out how long it is going to take us to walk from Waterloo East Station to the London Eye next Friday.
The children in Year 2 were very excited, & had great fun, navigating Bee Bots around famous London landmarks on a map. The children soon realised it was not as easy as it looked, especially after ‘crashing’ their Bee Bots into famous buildings!
Maple Class spent Monday afternoon learning about the celebration of Losar; a festival in Tibetan Buddhism. All the children had the opportunity to make & taste khapses; a traditional biscuit that is prepared and eaten during Losar.
The children in Year 2 spent the afternoon learning about England, Northern Ireland, Scotland & Wales. We located the countries on a map, identified the capital cities, looked at how the flag from each country made up the flag of the United Kingdom & discovered who the patron saint of each country is.
