Our School Council

Our School Council gives our pupils a voice in the running of the school. Delegates are elected by their peers and every class is represented.

Electing the School Council:

Each year a School Council is elected to represent the views and ideas of the pupils at Kemsley Primary Academy.

Each class (year 1-6) has a representative on the School Council. To be elected, anyone wishing to be included canvases for support and then delivers a speech to their class mates explaining why they should bethe class representative. The most popular three choices are then put onto ballot papers and every child in the class is able to vote for the person they would like to represent their class.

As a council, we then vote in a Chairperson, Vice Chairperson and Secretary in order to run the meetings.

The role of our School Council:

Meetings are held regularly to discuss things that are going well, possible concerns and ways of making our school even better.

If we are running events, we are responsible for organising it (with some help!).

It is the job of the School Council to work with their class mates and teachers to make the school even better than it already is.

In the past we have been involved in lots of projects including:

  • Discussing how we can make the playground more attractive and fun at lunchtimes;
  • Helping the teachers to buy lots of benches, playground equipment and toys and then reviewing how good they are;
  • Planning and organising a disco;
  • Organising for the wildlife area to be used more often and in a variety of ways.
