Rodmersham 2-2 Kemsley (AET: 4-2 on penalties)

Kemsley cruelly lost in the Sittingbourne Cup tonight away to Rodmersham.

After soaking up a lot of early pressure, the score was nicely posed 0-0 at half-time. Kemsley started the second half strongly and nearly took the lead when Sonny Roe hit the post from the edge of the box. Midway through the second half, Riley Carroll opened the scoring, finishing a great team move. Rodmersham deservedly equalised soon after with a header at the back post. With full time looming, Riley Carroll’s long range shot flew past the keeper and Kemsley were literally seconds away from a quarter final tie. However, from yet another long throw, Rodmersham scored a dramatic equaliser to take the tie into extra time.

After extra time, the two teams were still deadlocked at 2-2 and it was penalties. Unfortunately for Kemsley, we were on the end of a 4-2 penalty shootout defeat. The adults that watched were all immensely proud of the efforts that the team produced but it just wasn’t meant to be.

Here are some action shots from the game.
